Spatial cognitive ability is associated with transitory movement speed but not straightness during the early stages of exploration

چکیده
Memories about the spatial environment, such as locations of foraging patches, are expected to affect how individuals move around landscape. However, differ in ability remember (spatial cognitive ability) and evidence is growing that these inter-individual differences influence a range fitness proxies. Yet empirical evaluations directly linking variation development structure movement paths lacking. We assessed performance young pheasants ( Phasianus colchicus ) on cognition task before releasing them into novel, rural landscape tracking their movements. quantified changes straightness speed transitory over one month. Birds with better performances initially made slower than poor performers but by end month, there was no difference speed. In general, birds increased path time, indicating improved efficiency independent speed, this not related task. suggest initial slow movements may facilitate more detailed information gathering indicates potential link between an individual's behaviour.

CCL2 Is Associated with a Faster Rate of Cognitive Decline during Early Stages of Alzheimer's Disease
Chemokine (C-C motif) receptor 2 (CCR2)-signaling can mediate accumulation of microglia at sites affected by neuroinflammation. CCR2 and its main ligand CCL2 (MCP-1) might also be involved in the altered metabolism of beta-amyloid (Aβ) underlying Alzheimer's disease (AD). We therefore measured the levels of CCL2 and three other CCR2 ligands, i.e. CCL11 (eotaxin), CCL13 (MCP-4) and CCL26 (eotaxi...
متن کاملLeisure activity associated with cognitive ability level, but not cognitive change
Although activity participation is promoted as cognitively protective, critical questions of causality remain. In a cohort followed every 5 years from age 75 to 85 years, potential reciprocal associations between level and change in leisure activity participation and level and change in cognitive abilities were examined. Participants in the Glostrup 1914 Cohort, a longitudinal study of aging, c...
متن کاملNeurocognitive stages of spatial cognitive mapping measured during free exploration of a large-scale virtual environment.
Using a novel, fully mobile virtual reality paradigm, we investigated the EEG correlates of spatial representations formed during unsupervised exploration. On day 1, subjects implicitly learned the location of 39 objects by exploring a room and popping bubbles that hid the objects. On day 2, they again popped bubbles in the same environment. In most cases, the objects hidden underneath the bubb...
متن کاملThe Gambler’s Fallacy Is Associated with Weak Affective Decision Making but Strong Cognitive Ability
Humans demonstrate an inherent bias towards making maladaptive decisions, as shown by a phenomenon known as the gambler's fallacy (GF). The GF has been traditionally considered as a heuristic bias supported by the fast and automatic intuition system, which can be overcome by the reasoning system. The present study examined an intriguing hypothesis, based on emerging evidence from neuroscience r...
متن کاملWomen's probability of conception is associated with their preference for flirtatious but not masculine facial movement.
Women's preferences for facial structure vary over the menstrual cycle. Little is known, however, as to how preferences for behavior may be influenced by hormonal factors. Here, we demonstrate that social properties of facial motion influence attractiveness judgments in the absence of other cues, and that women's preferences for these displays vary over the menstrual cycle, as has been demonstr...
